1. Timber

We managed to find someone silly brave enough to cut down a post-derecho widowmaker that was recently damaged (again) such that the top 1/3 was overhanging our backyard.

2. Fire in the Hole

And then

man chopped wood

and then

woman created fire.

3. Why didn’t anyone tell me?

I have thoroughly enjoyed playing adult league co-ed softball this past Fall for the first time in 15 (?) Falls.

But, no one told me…

1. There would be games that didn’t start until after my regularly scheduled bedtime.

2. You cannot reverse age-related vision decline.

3. Age-related vision decline presents a problem when playing the outfield (in the dark).

4. I would often be scheduled to open the golf course before my awake time following a softball game that started after my bedtime the night before.

4. I Would Walk 500 100 Miles

I haven’t posted a Wellness Mission since June 3rd because the last mission was to get a handle on the number of open missions. Progress on that and some new mission plans coming soon!!

Nonetheless, I did finish a 100 miles of walking in 30 days challenge yesterday. πŸ™‚

5. I’d Crane My Neck To See That

I have a new bucket list of places to visit when it comes to nature’s wildest spectacles.

The below are descriptions via AI:

  • The Gales of November: Powerful autumn storms send enormous waves crashing against Lake Superior’s rocky shoreline. You can experience ocean-like weather hundreds of miles from the sea.
  • Bears Devouring Salmon: Huge brown bears gather at Brooks Falls, waiting for salmon to leap into their mouths. At peak times, dozens of bears can be seen fishing in the river.
  • Fireflies in Unison: Entire sections of forest appear to pulse with light as synchronous fireflies flash together. The peak lasts only a short period, and the famous Elkmont viewing requires a lottery.
  • Cranes in the Millions: Sandhill cranes converge on the Platte River by the hundreds of thousands. At dawn and dusk, the sky fills with birds and their rattling calls. One of the continent’s great animal migrations.

6. Big Men on Campus

I loved watching Indiana and Ohio State play football this past weekend!

And one aspect made it an exceptionally beautiful display for me:

MUTUAL RESPECT

  1. Indiana wide receiver, Charlie Becker, was absolutely demolished in a clean hit by Ohio State. Becker seemed to head nod in acknowledgement of the hit as he shook it off while being helped up by that defender.
  2. Twice, I saw players who knew that they did not “make the play” (ball hit the ground for instance) instantly own up to not having made the play instead of trying to sell that they made the play.
  3. The Head Coach handshake, following a tough win/loss respectively, was genuine in appearance. #maythebestman(today)win
  4. Charlie Becker also sought out Coach Day after the final whistle and apologized for a chant that he had led the previous year.
    1. “That was uncharacteristic of me. I’ve been thinking a lot about it, and I’m sorry to you and Ohio State.”

7. Well Played

From noon Tuesday to noon Wednesday…

Bicycling β€”> Float Tank β€”> Softball β€”> Tennis β€”> Golf

8. A Novel Commitment

I hereby publicly commit to writing a book to the point of completion between October 15th and April 15th.

I am in the middle of Chapter 3. Here’s a sneak peak:

Though often misunderstood, the man considered himself simple. He cared about only three things β€” The Dumpling Depot net income, the sport of biathlon and his daughter’s development as a biathlete.

Katarzyna Lewandowski was better known as Kat. She had just turned seventeen and had spent what seemed only one of those years sleeping and sixteen of those years doing three things β€” stocking shelves at The Dumpling Depot, cross country skiing (on one of her Dad’s contraptions during the ten months each year that the town lacked snow) and shooting a small-bore .22 caliber rifle.

9. Closing Credits

I appreciate you. 😘
