The Nuts & Bolts:
Months ago, and after an in-person discussion, a pastor friend leant me the book, Why Christian? For Those on the Edge of Faith by Douglas John Hall.
Without having read the book (yet), one of the Christian Values is most certainly—respect. Unfortunately, I’ve had the book long enough to have disrespected my friend’s generosity, love and compassion, in having reached out to me in the first place.
I saw this friend 2 days ago, and told him to give me 2 weeks.
And I would vow to the Gods to read, study and take notes on this book in the next 12 days but AI tells me:
AI:
As a Christian, vowing to “the gods” (polytheistic deities) is generally considered idolatry and a violation of the First Commandment. While biblical, voluntary vows to God are allowed, they are discouraged.
Prohibition of Other Gods: Christians are called to worship one God, making vows to other deities unacceptable.
Jesus’ Teaching: In Matthew 5, Jesus cautions against making oaths or vows, advising instead for simple, honest commitment.
And thus, I will simply commit to read, study and take notes on this book in the next 12 days.
