Mission:
Complete six 50K’s before a May 50K event.
50K = 31.07 Miles
6 x 50K = 186.42 Miles
Wellness Why(s):
Primary:
Physical—Need I explain this?
Subsidiary:
Social—Ahem, I wonder if Amber can hear me calling from a few doors away?!? And/or, if I run with athletes (see next).
Occupational—Post workouts and group run times with the option for tennis players and triathletes to join. #SpringTraining
Emotional—I will feel better about myself for being prepared come May!
Spiritual—May God help me!
The Nuts & Bolts:
As of this past Monday, I have 125 days until Race Day.
But, before we get to my part in all of this, let it be known that the ultimate goal for all of this is to coach and support Anya’s 50 MILE RACE DAY + FUNDRAISER.
And while we’re pondering, let’s see how well you know me…
And now back to main event.
I added the side quest of running the 50K race myself because this allows me to:
- Prepare and pre-race vibe alongside Anya.
- Support and see her off in the 50 mile race (different start times).
- Be present without feeling like I missed the 🚢.
- Cheerlead for the last 10+ miles of Anya’s mission!
This is a trail race, but I’m not sure how terrainy* the terrain will be. I have a ballpark time goal of 10 minute miles; mostly because I’d rather spend 5 hours running than 6 hours running.
The projected goal of 186.42 miles should allow me to build a base. I’ll vary the runs—aerobic, anaerobic, hills, sprints, fartlek, zigzag, short, long and in between. And, adjust as needed as the data compiles.
– In It For The Long Run
P.S. If you’re thinking that this amount of training is no where near enough, you should know that this will be more training than I did for any one of my 7 Ironman—4 Full, 3 Half—events, and possibly more than all of that training combined. Plus, this run training will be alongside a crapton of non specific run training (👀 a normal day for me).
Update On:
I promise that I’ll get this done, even on the days that I don’t want to because that’s what Anya calls DISCIPLINE and well, she’s the primary driver here. But, if you want to track my mileage with me, here’s where you can follow along.
* If you don’t know by now, I make up words. And if you’re not hearing me on this, perhaps you need be more obheardant**?
** Em made up this word at Age 10; she told me I hadn’t been very obheardant because I didn’t hear her coming. #shouldbeaword
