The Russian Quartet that Awes Me Ever More

(I must begin with a WELCOME because this is the first post in a new series that will be published on the monthly—More Than an Inkling of Inspiration)

I was intrigued from the very beginning! With the beginning dating back to 2012 or thereabouts.

Shortly after meeting this family of 4— husband, wife, 2 daughters—I learned that their basement had a thousand seedling plants under heat lamps. Because, you know, the common, normal, thought amongst Iowans is that you can, 100 years from now, have a backyard with Giant Sequoia trees IF ONLY you start the process in your basement!?!

Comical side story—a potential buyer walked through that house and this conversation ensued:

Instantly, I knew that this was the kind of family that was my kind of family. And the only thing that has changed in 15 years is that my thoughts back then—Who are these people? This-That and The Other Thing makes them quite very interesting!—are now in BOLD.

I guess that their interests have changed some also. What was once a crypt conservatory now has a quilting room, a kiln room and a tractor room; the tractor being necessary for what most people call a backyard but is their parklike setting with personalized trail names, igloo-covered decade-old redwood trees, a Christmas tree farm, greenhouse, wood planing station, grounds for mushroom hunting, underground potatoes and other above the ground vegetables garden.

I am honored to introduce to you a family that I consider family—Alex, Natasha and their now-more-grown-up trees and daughters, Anya and Sasha, Postnikov.

The style of these posts will be a highlight of the ways in which the feature individual/duo/group inspires me with respect to given aspects of wellbeing.

And their strong suits are, drumroll please:

  • Intellectual
  • Occupational
  • Physical

Given my relationship with their family, and their many positive friend circles, I considered Social being on this list, but the thought quickly passed. They would probably agree with me in that Sasha may be the only one to actually excel on that front with Alex being more like my husband—OPENLY ANTI (unless you are lucky enough to be in his circle).

Back to the top. And note that these are Current Events! In other words, the surface as it stands now. Believe me, to cover each layer (the last 15 years that I’ve known them and/or their story before K.J.) would surely be longer than your attention span; unless your attention span is set to THE COMPLETE GUIDE TO INTERESTING PEOPLE OVER A LIFETIME.

And finally, how can you be more like a Postnikov? How do they do it? In my opinion, their greatest skill is TIME MANAGEMENT! And by that, I mean their management of their TIME on this Earth, which leaves me with just one question:

Alex and Anya are in Australia RIGHT NOW so I find this only appropriate as a sign-off:

Grab a cuppa or tinny because I’d like to give Cheers to some of my most interesting and best mates that truly, leave me in awe of their ways!

Kris, this is such a beautiful post and I cannot thank you enough for taking the time to write about our family. We are so truly blessed for having you in our lives and you taking the time to write this is just above and beyond. Grateful that tennis brought us together so many years ago and we have expanded into a beautiful lifelong connection.

You know more than anyone how much you personally inspire me on an everyday basis and I’m grateful I got to spend a lot of time with you in December & January. You, Eric, Emmie, and the extended fam always hold a special place in my heart.

You are such an eloquent writer! I admire your consistency.
