Stay Awhile

I asked for a “Sunday Morning Prompt to Ponder”:

  • If this morning could give you one small instruction—not a goal, just a nudge—what would it be?
  • Write only in short lines, one thought per breath.

Me (feels push on the back of left shoulder and turns head): Huh?

Nudge: Just me.

Me: And?

Nudge: Not happy to see me?

Me: It’s just that—I feel tranquil. And this doesn’t happen very often.

Nudge: Listen.

Me: I’m all ears.

Nudge: No, to yourself. Go on now…

Me: Relish the calm. Breathe. Deeply. Hear the dog snoring. And the faint chirping of birds. See the tall grasses swaying slightly in the wind. Smell the coffee bean aroma. Savor the hint of cinnamon and the plumped up raisins in the oatmeal. Pick up the book; set foot in the wilderness.

Nudge: Quite nice, no?

Me: Beautiful—shall we stay awhile?

Nudge: I’d like that.
